The Medicare program and its beneficiaries currently pay more for many high-cost drugs than many other countries. The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) is taking action on President Trump’s goal to lower drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries by exploring a potential model that seeks to ensure the Medicare program pays comparable prices for Part B drugs relative to other economically-similar countries. The administration is proposing several big changes, including changing how physicians and hospitals are paid for drugs to decrease their incentive to prescribe higher-cost drugs.
